I live in a great old house, but it has needed a lot of help. It is about 65 years old, and I find it quite common that builders did not build with space in mind back then. I don’t know if that is because people value more space now than they did back then, or if places were often made small for financial reasons in the past. Either way, it is not too hard to decorate in such a way these days that makes it look like your home is much larger. A glass installer in Brooklyn came over just recently to hear about my plans and tell me whether or not he could carry them out in a way that would fit my budget.
My kitchen area is rather small, and the cabinets feel like they take up the entire room. So, I wanted to knock out the front, wood paneling and have glass sheets installed. This would make the cabinets look less heavy and it would even allow me to spotlight some of the beautiful dishes and ceramics that I have. Normally, those things are hidden out of site by wooden doors.
There is only one bathroom in my entire home. We all have to share it, and we all feel so closed in when we are in there. There is wall between the toilet and the sink for privacy. But it’s a thick wall and it closes the entire room off. I wanted it knocked down and replaced with a frosted glass wall, which would be much thinner. It would still give privacy and not be so bulky.
The glass installer said he could do both things for me for under $1,000, which is much less than I thought it would cost to have custom worker done. He did the work and the place looks beautiful now.
Ants drive me nuts. They crawl all over the place looking for food. I can understand that. I do that myself just before sitting down to watch some TV in the evening. Ants are social creatures. They go out making a trail of pheromones. If they find food, they double up the scent trail on the way back. That way more ants can follow the trail to the food source. When I saw about a hundred of them on our countertop in the kitchen, I knew I had to call an exterminator in NYC to get rid of them.
There is likely not any way a homeowner could find the path they are taking to get inside. Unless there is a huge line coming and going, you just won’t see where they are coming in at. Plus, they can be coming up through the foundation through little tunnels under ground. Not all of them crawl up the outside of the foundation leaving a visible trail. It is suspected that the ones at our house where getting in through an old section of stone foundation that was about three layers thick. There was no sealing it tight. Read More
I have to figure owe what I am going to do about the problem we have with the shop and I am not really sure that it is going to make a lot of sense no matter what I do. I need to find some guy who does roof repair in brooklyn ny. I know a bit abou home improvemement. However I have real limits to what I am able to do and you want to think about what you are doing very carefully when you examine a situation like this. In this case it might be better to just walk away from this place and start up at another place. It is going to cost a whole lot of money to fix this problem and it is quite possible that it is just not worth the time and the trouble tap d do it. You may be able to start over some place else and end up in a better situation.
It is a matter of what makes sense and you have to think of in cold hard facts. Read More
My friends think I’m crazy. I like to think that it’s not madness which drives me but simple logic. It’s all because of my belief that the shower is one of the finest achievements of our entire civilization. I totally mean for that to include modern plumbing and heated water being available to us, too, but really it is the shower which brings it all together in a single place where we can indulge in that glorious luxury. Thankfully, I found the perfect shower enclosures in Essex County NJ that I could not wait to have installed in my home.
See, I’ve always wanted the perfect shower. Read More
Emma and I got in the car after work Friday and drove West to Nashville. We stopped in Knoxville to eat, not because we were hungry, but because we had not been able to get through before rush hour. You just can not fight the traffic on I 40 in Knoxville TN and so we had a nice supper at this place I know on the edge of town. We got to Nashville a bit later than I hoped and checked in to the hotel. I actually knew the wedding photographer, from Doerman Photography. I just could not place him really. I had met him at the Hermitage Hotel a couple of years ago. Read More
I need to have the sewer drains near my property cleaned out because they are clogged right now, and that is caused some small flooding and in my yard, when it rains. I guess that there are mostly leaves and stuff clogging the drains, but it is a big problem for me, and I need to get it resolved before it rains again. So that means i have to find a company that does sewer cleaning in Westchester County and to try to hire them for this job for a reasonable price. It does not seem like it should cost that much to get something like this done.
But anyway, I am going to try to look up some prices, and compare them. Read More
Twitch. When this website first made it’s debut, I was doubtful that it would gain any real traction due to Youtube already having a firmly entrenched gamer partnership that did not look to be going anywhere any time soon. Then came the YouTube Apocalypse when they released their automated copyright bot program that inadvertently shut down numerous popular partner channels, pulling videos left and right due to DMCA take down notices that even the game designers and publishers cried out to be stopped. Unfortunately, this did nothing! Now people like me buy twitch viewers in order to re-gain what we have lost with over at YouTube. Read More
Anyone who is familiar with photography knows that the work does not end when you press the button and take a picture. Sure, this is the part of the process that usually gets the most attention, but just having pictures stored within the camera does not do much good for anyone. Instead we typically want to take these recorded pictures and transfer them to other mediums, which can sometimes be a more intense process than the actual picture taking itself. Of course as technology has come along, things have gotten easier, especially with cheap scanner software that is now readily available to suit a wide variety of customer needs.
It was not long ago that in order to take a picture from a camera and turn it into something useful, you had to pay a professional for every aspect of it. Read More
