  1. Locked Out      Crowded House           I been locked out
    I been locked in
But I always seem to come back again
    When you're in that room
    What do you do
I know that I will have you in the end
And the clouds they are crying on you
And the birds are offering up their tunes
In a shack as remote as a mansion
You escape into a place where nothing moves
    And I been locked out
    And I know we're through
But I can't begin to face up to the truth
I wait so long for the walls to crack
But I know that I will one day have you back
And the hills are as soft as a pillow
And they cast a shadow on my bed
And the view when I look through my window
Is an altar piece I'm praying to for the living and the dead
Twin valley shines in the morning sun
I send a message out to my only one
I been locked out and I know we're through
But I can't begin to face up to the truth
I wait so long for the walls to crack
But I know that I will one day have you back
And I work with the bees and the honey
Every night I circle like the moon
It's an act of simple devotion
But it can take forever when you've got something to prove

  2. Grunge had hit a few years earlier and guitar bands were still all the rage. By this time slightly more mellow guitar band stuff was in rotation… a couple that occur to me are Weezer, Blind Melon.
This song was Crowded House going as near to that sound as they dared without seeming like total sellouts. But it's a bit like seeing some of those 70's artists in the twilight of their careers show up in the early 80's with new wave makeup on and a few synths in the background.

  3. One of their many great tunes. I wonder who put together the Reality Bites soundtrack (this is on it) – Love it.

  4. Paul had left the band at this stage. I think the drummer was from Sheryl Crow's band who were touring with Crowded House in '94.

  5. Well as much as I love them boys I think it was overdone. Neil sang and performed great but not once did you see Paul playing the drums. Trying to crack America is a hard thing and I think the band showed the world what they were about but if I were their producer at the time, I would have toned things down just a bit and showcased the entire band and not just the paid help.

  6. why are they not popular in the U.S.??? i have not figured that out, other than their song "Chocolate Cake" which put kinda put down the U.S. but who cares? we here do it too! Neil Finn is one of the best songwriters and musicians of all time, and I want him and Crowded House to be known and popular here, as well as in the U.K., New Zealand, and Australia, among other countries.
